IELTS for UK Visa including Indefinite Leave to remain and naturalisation


Virtually everyone now needs an English language test to apply for a UK spouse, citizenship and family visa. This criteria can be filfulled by passing an IELTS test as it is accepted as proof of meeting English test requirement for UK visas including Settlement and naturalisation. Which IELTS Do I need to take if I am applying for UK Indefinite Leave to Remain?

You would need to take IELTS Life Skills at B1 Level which has two components of speaking and listening and you would need to pass both.

Which IELTS Do I need to take if I am applying for UK naturalisation?

Same as above as IELTS Life Skills at B1 Level with two components of speaking and listening.

Which IELTS Do I need to take if I am applying for Further Leave to remain?

IELTS at A1 level. Note that if you’re applying for extension for Further Leave to remain then you would need to take IELTS at A2 level.

How long the test is valid for?

IELTS tests expire after two years from the date of taking it. So if you initially satisfied the English test requirement by passing the test, you may need to retake IELTS again if your visa or settlement application is not lodged during this period of two years.

How much is the fee for taking the test?

IELTS for UK visas and settlements cost £150.

Can I take TOEFL instead of IELTS for UK naturalisation or settlement visa?

TOEFL has no longer been accepted for UK visas and settlement since 22 July 2014.
